How To Get Rid Of Voicemail Notification?

My nephew is finding that even after he's cleared his new voicemails he is still getting the little icon notifying him that he was a v-mail in his notifications bar. There seems to be no way for him to clear this. He's deleted all his v-mails, then had someone call him and leave a message and then deleted that one. Nothing seems to make the icon go away from the notification bar. He brought it to a Verizon store and the tech guys couldn't help him. They suggested a hard reboot might be necessary. He doesn't want to do that for obvious reasons as he'd lose all his apps and email accts, etc.

Anyone have any ideas what's going on or if there's a fix for this?

Go to manage applications under settings and open the dialer. Click on clear cache. That should clear out any standing memory of voicemail. Good luck!

Update:

The problem was not the phone, it was a problem with Verizon's voice mail. They reset it for him, he changed his password and now all is well. They sent him a test v-mail, the icon showed up on the screen, he listened to it and hit "7" (erase) and the icon went away, as it should have all along. It was never a problem with the phone...the phone previously had just been showing the signal it was getting from Verizon.

This worked on phone with no contract THANKS!

I just wanted to drop a line and say this worked for me. My issue was that I changed carriers to AT&T from Verizon, and since I no longer had service, I couldn't get into voice mail to delete the old messages. So the Notification was always there on my old phone. After clearing the dialer storage the notification is gone! I even tried calling Verizon Techsupport, and their solution was to hard wipe the phone! Thanks again!
