How to get today's date to display on Bionic home page?

Novice here. Probably a simple question.

How do I get today's date to stay displayed on my home page? The date up in the left hand corner (where notifications display) will only show if I touch the screen...inconvenvenient.

All help is appreciated....Thanks

Use a widget would be my guess.
