How to remove a gmail account?

How do you remove a gmail account? When I bought my droid, my contacts on my primary gmail account wasn't quite set up yet. so I didn't use that one, i used a different one. Now that I've got both linked, i can't get rid of my dummy account. I suppose it's not THAT big of a deal, but I'd like to be able to get rid of it if it can be done without resetting my phone.

Go into settings, then accounts & sync, click on the account you dont want anymore, at the bottom of the screen is a remove account button.

When I do that it tells me the account is being used, and therefore I can't remove it without resetting the phone.
