how to root droid x

Hello all:

I'm new to all this so be kind. Just got my droid x three weeks ago and am new to smartphones. I love it and have read many great reviews.

My question involves rooting droid x. From what I've read I believe I like the advantages. Again new to this, I was looking for an easy way to root and downloaded easy root, but it will not root properly on my phone.

Can someone help me with the easiest way to root droid x so I don't brick my phone?
