I am so embarrassed to ask this, but how do you send a text message? I just got my phone today, and I tried under "To" to type the contacts name, but I don't think it worked. I then typed the contacts number in, and it was sent. Can I not just type the name, or go into contacts and click on the person to send a text to? Please tell me I don't have to type in the persons number every time! Also I have not received any text that was sent to me even though several were sent to me.

there might be a quicker way but im still new as well.. if you go into contacts and select the person you want, to the right theres a little message icon.. tap that and it should open up a new text window..

... from Contacts, after you select a contact, you can click on the 'conversation bubble' (as stated above) and that will give you an empty text to that person!

... from the Messaging app (green conversation icon) you can type in the name of the contact you wish to text.... the field should auto complete, or at least provide contacts matching the first couple letters you entered.... then just click down in the text entry field and you're good to go!

... for MMS download an app called Handcent... it will greatly improve texting for you as well... does group texts too.

Ok thanks for your help. Aftera few tries I finally got it to work by clicking on "To" and typing the contacts name even though when I did it earlier it didn't work.

Easy way to send text from CONTACTs list...

Also a new droid user.
Easiest way to text from CONTACTS (phonebook).... Try this:
1). Open contacts
2). Place finger on contact's name and HOLD for a sec.
3). Popup opens with 6 options/choices - veiw, edit contact, call contact, TEXT-CONTACT, delete contact...
4). Make your choice.

It's that simple !

Works fine for me and I'm on 2.2. Long press the contact, pick and go.
