Are you talking about a different ringtone for certain text message contacts? If that's the case then I think Handcent is what you're looking for. Oh, and welcome to the forum, kriddle!

yeh i installed ringdroid found my song clicked on the button that kinda looks like a floppy disk it says save as either ringtone music alarm or notification ok so i clicked ringtone and saved it so when ppl call it plays that song im lost how to save it for my texts yknow unless im missing a step or doing somthing wrong idk

It does seem like the Text Messaging apps use a different 'tone' list than the ringtones. I was wondering the same thing, how do you make a new 'Alert' tone, and I haven't yet found the answer.

That said, I haven't looked too hard, mostly just watching threads like this.

i dont need different ringtones for different ppl nothing like that just that when i get a text it doesnt say droid it will play the song i choose yknow? i have no idea how to make a alert tone do you think i might be doing somthing wrong?

Hit menu (four lines) then scroll to notifications. Android system. Any ringtones saved there you can set for notifications for texts. Or when you download a new tone set it as a notification instead I'd ringtone.

Both of you, try this http://www.droidforums.net/forum/re...forums-stock-solutions-thread.html#post427101 and once you create the folder structure, you can choose whatever you want for notifications, alarm, or ringtones.

i know how to set a ringtone for when ppl call thats easy but its not giving me an option for a text ringtone

Now that will change your notification tone for everything like, gmail, texts, anything that is a "notification" and not a ringtone. You should be able to go to the stock text messaging app and change the tone just for that, in the settings. You can do the same for gmail, email, and other things.

when i go to menu i dont see notifications

Make sure you are in Messaging (as if you were going to text someone) then go to Menu, then Settings and then you will see Notifications. Check that box. Then below it is Select Ringtone. Select from the list of ringtones available.

That's pretty much it.

im sorry im lost here and confused ive only had the phone for 4 days could you run the steps by me one by one on how to do it please thanks for your help its kinda complicated
