One of the biggest reasons to to root your Android device in the beginning was to add the ability to install custom themes to your device. This practice became so popular that top OEMs like Samsung and HTC decided to build the feature into their Android overlays natively. This not only allows you to customize your device, but also allows them to get in on the theming marketplace and take a cut of sales while creating a place where themers can have their work displayed in front of lots of eyes.
HTC allows users to submit their themes to the theme store. They apparently don't do alot of vetting as to how original the submitting themers themes are. It seems that some theme work is being ripped off and uploaded to the theme store. An OG themer "ThaPhlash" has found several instances where someone else has taken the credit for his themes. After emailing HTC and taking every avenue to contact them about removing his work that was submitted without his approval he has not heard back from HTC. Themers stand to lose income when their work is being uploaded without their knowledge. Hopefully HTC will take a closer look at this situation and figure out a way to keep this from happening in the future.
