The HTC Droid DNA has been a rollercoaster ride for devs and tinkerers since before it was even launched. More than a week before the phone came to market, HTC was kind enough to launch a bootloader unlock tool on their site, HTCdev.com. However, just days prior to the official launch of the device, Verizon turned right around and revoked that possibility. Luckily, some folks over at Android Police figured out a way to get it unlocked again and shared it for all of us. It's actually a creative softmod method that allows you to use HTC's original tool to get the job done.

Thankfully now we can get off this crazy ride and get back to customizing to our hearts content. Check out the full method at the source link below.

The only thing I like about Verizon is that they haven't been throttling grandfathered unlimited data users.

Oh wait.. its coming... they're probably holding out for a bit until we are able to upgrade and then let the games begin...

Mine is now unlocked, rooted, and has custom recovery!

I I didn't use almost the entire 16gb on my external 16gb in all my phones since I got my first droid I'd go for this... I just cannot see myself carrying a usb otg adapter around.

maybe a case with some kind of built in USB OTG which would give you a sort of constant extra storage space.... still... I love the look of this phone, I cannot stand the space.

glad it's been unlocked though. I absolutely love that

I'm still hoping that when a teardown occurs we will find that either you can solder in a MicroSD slot, or you can replace the board with the J Butterfly. If not, I'm still content with 11GB usable.
