HTC Droid DNA SMS Freezing

I've had my DNA for about 5 months now and haven't had any issues until today. It's been EXTREMELY slow opening up SMS texts and sending them. I'm not getting a ridiculous amount of texts, and rarely use group chat. I cleared my inbox but was still unable to resolve the issue. I'm not getting a SIM card error, or an SMS error, it just takes about 30 seconds to open a single text. I don't have a problem receiving them, only opening them. I went through and closed running apps, I've hit the restart button and nothing happened, as well has powering the phone off, letting it sit, and powering it back on with no success. I use COMODO antivirus and have run several scans thinking maybe I picked up a bug but it did not come up with anything. I'm not watching porn or messing around with the operating system at all this just randomly developed last night and has continued through the day (so about 28 hours with this problem now). I'll probably end up going to Verizon store after I get off work tomorrow but if anyone has suggestions I'm willing to look into them as I'm not excited about replacing the whole phone. (This is actually my second DNA my first randomly turned off and wouldn't turn back on at all so I got a refurbished replacement phone) I treated both that one and this one very well, I do not drop them all the time from high places or anything crazy, the phone has an otterbox and a screen cover so there literally isn't a scratch on the phone.

Please don't comment if you don't have useful ideas, a bunch of comments that just say "I'm having the same problem and don't know what to do" doesn't help me or anyone else that potentially has the same issue out.
Thanks!

go into settings, apps, messages, and clear cache. also, if you use a third party texting app, clear cache there, too. Please understand that if you have a LOT of texts on the phone, it will slow down the app. If that is the case, use an sms backup app to save your texts to sd and then delete all your old texts.

Have you tried a 3rd party sms app. If it doesn't lag, then you know it is the stock messaging app. If that's the case, I would try opening up settings-applications-slide to all, scroll down to messaging and hit force stop. If this doesn't work then I'm afraid a factory reset may be in your future. Verizon will have you do one before replacing the phone anyway.
If you try the 3rd party app and it does lag, then something else is slowing it down. Does your antivirus program scan the messages before opening them. This could slow it down, but i doubt to the extent you describe. Again, as a last resort, a factory reset is most likely going to fix it. It's just a PITA.
If you resolve this, please report back, because just like you said, "I have the same problem" doesn't help. Nor does people who fix their problem and never post how they did it.
Good luck.

Since the 3rd party apps work thru, and in conjunction with the stock app, i don't recommend a force stop. If you haven't done so already, reboot your phone. Sometimes simply powering off for a couple of minutes and then turning back on will clear out anything that has managed to get "stuck", just like rebootting your pc.

My stock app is disabled and gosms works fine. Is gosms able to utilize a disabled app?

I'm not exactly sure how they communicate with each other, since the ability to disable apps is a relatively new function in the world of android. There is an old thread around here somewhere that explained a lot of it, but I can't remember where it is, was probably a year or so back. And way back when, there were more than a few people who rooted their phones, and since they were using a 3rd party app, would delete the stock app thinking it was bloat , and that's when they ran into problems because they were unable to send or receive anything.

I had this same problem.

I had one message thread that had been building up for quite a while. I deleted it and, after turning fastboot off, restarted my phone. The problem went away.

Hopefully it's a simple fix for you, too.
