Hi everybody -- a little while back I posted about a problem I was having with my SD card.

http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-x-tech-issues/133991-problems-droid-x-sd-card.html

Those problems weren't going away, and I realized that the Market was also acting strangely -- so I decided to do a hard reset just to see if that would help.

So I did. What I didn't think about before I reset the phone, though, is that the Market went back to Version 2.09, and as soon as I tried to open it, it attempted to re-download all the apps I had installed before the reset. I had a lot (don't laugh -- I had about 300). It seems like this basically overwhelmed the phone. Nothing will download or install. If I go to the Market, it opens up "Downloads" (remember, that's what it used to be called) and shows "Starting download" indicators for like forty apps, and just hangs there.

I'm pretty sure there's still something wrong with the SD card. I'm able to access all the files on it via a card reader and my PC, but when I go into Settings, the "Format SD card" option is grayed out, and the "Unmount SD card" causes Settings to hang and finally gives me a force close. Also, whenever I pull up any app's settings page in "Manage applications", it can't tell me how much memory is being used -- it stays stuck on "Computing..." in the size column.

So my question is -- does anyone have an idea about how I might be able to block the Market from trying to restore all my previously installed apps? There doesn't seem to be a way of dissociating them from my Android Market account on the web.

Thanks for whatever suggestions you might have. Presumably the first thing I need to do is replace the card, but I'm concerned that there's some other problem with the phone that'll cause the same issues to recur.

Did you setup your gmail account? No Gmail, No Market.

Manage applications the. Stop. Should let you do your thing. If you still cannot instal check your permissions. I've had to manually set rom managers to allow it to run the first permissions command. If you have any questions send me a mesaage

I've wondered that myself. Did you do a hard factory data reset or just the one out of your privacy section?

Thanks all. I did the hard factory reset (I think -- home key + power on, then select factory reset from the recovery menu). To be a little clearer, it's not that I can't access the market or that installs are failing. It's that the Market is attempting to restore all my old apps at once and it just hangs.

Kamisan - will send you a message. Thanks.

Update -- Market problems resolved for now, I think the SD card is bad

Several applications were successfully installed, but i let the process run for several hours without any progress. So I decided that it was more than just a "traffic jam" caused by trying to reinstall too many apps at once.

In the end, I was able to resolve the problem by following these steps:

  1. Power off the phone
  2. Remove the SD card
  3. Turn on the phone
  4. Go to Manage Applications, find the Market, hit Force stop and then Clear data
  5. Restart Market
Now it seems to work OK. If I re-insert the SD card, though, the Market starts acting up again. So right now I am running the phone with no SD card and will be replacing the card tomorrow.

Thanks for all the suggestions --

Nathan

If I do a factory reset, do I have to reactivate the phone?
