I hate the dialpad/calling features

Is there anyway to tweak the actual phone part of my Eris, or an app that changes the dialpad/...I keep misdialing/dialing people I don't mean too, dialing the same wrong number multiple times. I understand I'm probably going to get ripped on, but the actual phone part of my Eris is my only complaint.

I did recalibrate it when I first got it. I'll try again. Honestly I wouldn't mind a completely different look when I hit the "Phone" button though.

The alternative would be to either dial from your contacts or else try using the People app that comes with the phone. It works like your favorites, only you get to specify your contact method of choice. (For example, there are some people that I text more often, so when I select them, it brings up a text message screen right away.) It might work better for you.

You could alternatively use the MOV app, from any home screen you bring up the keyboard and start typing a few letters and it does a wide net search of that word on your phone. one of the option from there is to dial the person you pull up. this does not help you dial non-contact saved numbers though. sounds like you have a weird bug?

Phreak, i'm sympathetic to your complaints. I think the "phone" app that's native the the eris leaves a lot of room for improvement.

Question: Is there a phone app to replace the native one, like the Handcent app replaced the native message app?

yes, dialpad sucks - i totally get this

i get this too... even though i use both dialing methods mentioned (via people app, typing name in the keyboard to bring up contact, etc) the problem isn't so much placing the calls as it is DISCONNECTING without unintentionally redialing the poor person you just talked to.. again and again and again.

ugh.

So that I can best try to help, exactly what is the nature of the problem? You don't give much information.

As for the last message, the problem isn't the phone, it is impatience. What is happening is you are hitting End Call. Then because it takes a couple of seconds, you are hitting it again and then the phone thinks you are hitting Call. The solution to that is to hit End Call (you can tell when the button was hit) and wait until it ends the call instead of hitting the button again.

Alternatively you can hit the Hang-up/power button to hang up the call.

well, LWA, i haven't ever claimed to be the most patient person, but i think for me it's been more of either unknowingly double tapping or long pressing the end call and it redialing. it's taken me a bit to get used to the type of "touch" the phone responds to best and that could be part of it. funny the thought never occured to me to hit the hang up/power button (light bulb going on overhead)! i think i'll try that and i'm betting it will fix my prob.

thanks!! :)

My husband found an app that replicates a rotary dial. It seems to work really well. I would think that if that one is out there, there are more. Try searching the market.
