i think im giving up on rooting it

Well I posted a thread that laptop wont recognize my droid 2 with no help,I've tried the no computer way and when I try to dl rageagainstthecage.zip or droidxroot. Both tell me the content is not for my phone. I figure an app I dl'd is blocking or something. Don't know and just frustrated.phone doesn't want to be rooted

go here and follow steps... you can root it from the phone using the terminal emulator that you can get from market for free

Ok when i type in step 2 the end of it says ......srcN directory. Then goes to$ and i type in chmod 777 rage*.bin and tells me no directory found then to$ so i type in. ./rage*.bin and same thing. No directory or whatever found

did you download the four files you need and put them on "root"(not in any folder) of the sd card?

heres the files http://www.***********/file/SY__sCo_/Droid2Root.html extract\unzip them with winrar or 7-Zip... remember to type exactly what the instructions say... with spaces and everything.. dont type the "-" in the beginning of each step thats just there to show a new step

ps make sure when doing this phone is in sdebugging mode Settiings -> applications -> development -> USB debugging.

Yes I did and finally got it. Thanx so much. I have bootstrapper now all I have to do is back up?and what happens when os update comes?thanx again

sweeet! no problem glad i could help.. yup make a nandroid back up. go into bootstrapper, click bootstrap recovery.. allow permission.. it should say sucess... click reboot recovery, it should reboot and go into clockwork recovery, go down using the volume down button and select using camera button, select backup and restore, click backup.. it should back up everything on system.. might take a few minutes... bam you have a nandroid backup.. heres a site for updating a rooted droid 2 to the newest update TBH & MyDroidWorld Present: Droid 2 (2.3.20) Triple Threat but id wait untill the full sbf is available.. good luck

Ok im backed up and I saved that site,I mainly did it for cpu speed and tether.What are some sweet apps for rooted and how can I start getting rid of factory loaded programs?Is there a link for new rooters and what can be done after rooting?thanx again and sorry if alot of newbie ?'s

barnacle wifi thether or wireless tether, droid 2\x overclock apps by jrummy16 or unstable apps, hot reboot and or quick boot, root explorer, rom manager but it sucks for droid 2 right now, setCPU, titanium backup(best backup app made!), maybe some more that im missing. as for removing system apps the oly way i kow is installing a custom rom like fission or one of angdroids 2.4.5 roms orsome other ones heres a link http://www.droidforums.net/forum/droid-2-roms/87309-list-all-working-d2-roms.html
