The HTC Incredible at Verizon Wireless site says it has 8GB internal memory*actual formatted capacity is less and then says (Memory: ROM: 512MB, RAM: 512MB DDR). Is the 8GB just another storage card or will apps be able to be installed in this area? It also says that you can add up to 16GB of optional microSD support.

The 512MB Rom is used for the Operating System.
The 512MB RAM is used by the OS to boot and work within.
The 8GB of internal memory is available to the operating system and used for installing apps.
You can add external storage externally via MicroSD card slot up to 32GB.

Do you think the software will ever support anything larger then 32GB MicroSD?

Hard to say, but I don't think I've seen anything larger than a 32gb microSD card as it is, so its going to be on the manufacturers to start coming out with a higher capacity card first, I believe.

And as it is, there's no way I'd buy the 32gb card as they stand on pricing. I think most were over $200. Hopefully they drop quick.

You sure about that?

I'm willing to wager that the 512mb rom will be for OS and applications, and the 8gb will be for internal storage, not unlike an sd card.

i cant imagine having a 2tb micro. i have 2 tb of music on hd doesnt take up much space<couple of books> but to have it take up only a fingernail size. lol im glad i am still young i love tech.

From everything I've read, you're correct on this. The 8gb will be for storing music, photos, data and such. Not going to be usable for running applications.

I've read the same thing on a couple review sites. 512 for apps and the 8 gb will be music, files, etc...just like it was a sd card. The thing is linux uses ext 2, 3, 4, files systems for the system format and windows uses fat32 or ntsc. The sd card has to be in the fat32 format in order for windows to recognize it. If the 8gb internal memory was in linux format you wouldn't be able to see it when you hooked it up to your pc as windows doesn't recognize that format and you wouldn't be able to transfer you music and pictures and such over. Linux will recognize fat32. Just FYI.

I'm curious as to how the system will see and manage the 8gb internal and a 16gb sdcard at once. If I have music on both will any music app look in both places? Will developers have to update their apps?

Wow, didn't know that. I was under the impression that the 8GB could be used for apps as well. Now that I know I'm not missing out on 8GB worth of apps, I don't feel as bad sticking with my droid instead. That was the only feature that made me want to switch.

Until a manufacturer makes the internal rom space that large (which I presume is very costly), or Google gets off their butts and provides us with their own Apps2SD solution, we are pretty much stuck with small primary storage :(

That is what I thought. I was sure hoping I was wrong. I was going to pick up this phone for that purpose.

So does Is the incredible compatible with sdxc micro cards or not?
