Installing a kernel / overclocking?

Hi,
I recently went to download and use Ultimate Droid v9, but it was acting too slow for the OS. I went to look for overclocking stuff and kernels, (and found a lot), but I'm not a very tech-savvy person and don't know what to install and how to install it to get it to work properly (and I dont want to go trial-and-error in fear of bricking my Droid).I've got the ROM manager and all the other tools I need. If someone would be willing to walk me through it step by step, it would be much appreciated.

Thank you in advance!
-Andrew

+edit+ And yes, I did look on the forums first for help before posting. I couldn't find anything that could help me (also looked around Youtube for a while).

Im on my Droid so I cant link you to anything but I HIGHLY recommend and of P3Droids OC kernels.

Im running his Red Line series LV 1200 @ 1.2ghz right now on UDv10 and it is running phenominal.

Go into blackdroids section here and see his sticky on v10 there is link for all of P3Droids kernels which are great on UD.

Installing is very easy. just rename the zip to update.zip drop it on the root of your sd card boot in SPRecovery and install it.

i would recommend not using ROM Manager for any of BD's ROMS he no longer supports it.

Installing via nandroid is the way to go.

try out his v10 with apps2sd its pretty awesome.

Again apologies for not being able to link you to all this info but somebody will drop in and help you with links.

You can download P3droid kernels from Rom manager. I've had success with the 1.0 mhz kernel but didn't like the 1.1... Download SetCpu from the market and use the slider to set your max and min clocking speeds. Also, get temp monitor to keep an eye on the cpu and battery temps. I haven't had a problem with the temps on the kernels i've used, but keep an eye on them to be safe. Also read this http://www.droidforums.net/forum/bl...g-101-concert-blackdroid-roms.html#post327033

I've had SetCPU for a while, but I was not aware I needed a kernel to actually USE it. When I went into my root folder, it already shows an update.zip file. Do I simply delete that file and replace it with the kernel file? And after that is said and done, the SetCPU will work to overclock?

+edit+ So I would be doing this: (?)
1) Download/Install UD-10
2) Re-download SetCPU
3) Install Kernel file in root of SD
4) Boot in Recov mode > install update.zip (kernel file) <<AFTER deleting current update.zip file thats on the SD from somewhere..>>
5) Reboot Droid and run SetCPU
6) What do I set my min/max's to? Also for profiles?
7) After all that is said and done it will be overclocked and fine? No temp problems I imagine?
That about right?

Ugh. So I went to UD's site and tried to download and install the UD10 via SPRecovery, but its still in the zip file, therefore I get the "Nandroid exited with status 25" message. I'm assuming I need to open it from my phone with a file manager, like ROM manager? Followed Blackdroid's instructions to the tee--clearing Data and Cache twice.

Tried what I posted in my last statement. No luck. Wtfffffff. I hate being tech-illiterate. Sorry for being a 'tard, but hopin yall can still put up with me for a bit longer lol

did you extract the file?

Don't leave it zipped and make sure you put it into the nandroid folder (if you don't have one make one on the root of your sd card.)

But when I extract it from the Zip folder, it shows a bunch of things.... With the other ROMs ive used (Smoke Glass in particular) it just has one file that I put into the Nandroid folder and boot up from there. This has multiple. Which do I choose to load?
This is what I mean:

all 4 of those files should remain in that unzipped folder and placed in the nandroid folder..

I did that (kept them in the unzipped folder and put into Nandroid), then went to SPRecov, wiped Data and Cache (twice), then attempted to load the file, and got the Error 25 message

You're running UD10? Maybe I have a different/incorrect file. Send me a copy of yours and see if that helps?

+edit+ made an unzipped file, put it into my Nandroid file, tried to boot it up in SPRecov (after clearing cache and data again) and got an Error 21 this time.... I think I might have a different file than you are using. After all, it does say "theme" in the title...Whats yours?

Ok, I had the UD10 working and went to install a OC Kernel from Chevy (ChevyNo1 - Get Yer Kernels Here (ERE25 Only)), chose a 5-slot 1ghz Kernel, and loaded it up...and my phone FREAKED out on startup, force-closed everything, "Process Android Phone has stopped working"..had to do a hard reset and restore back to my old ROM. What did I do wrong?

this is the closest thread I could find for my question.
when I run the set cpu tests it ssys "lower is faster" is that a kernel issue? Currently have 2.6.32.9-p3-droid with the c cpu set a at 125-500. is there a better kernel for me?

I have Froyo 2.2 FRG22 installed. The kernel I am running is a 250-1100 kernel. This allows me to run it at 1 GHZ using SetCPU.

Running at maximum of 500 is no faster then the standard CPU speed. I'm assuming you are rooted, so if you want faster speed then overclock it with the kernel I described and of course make sure you do all your settings for SetCPU to preserve battery.

If you would like you can also use the 125/1100 kernel but I have heard Droids running Froyo can have a difficult time waking with a 125 low reading.

Thanks for at least trying to search for a topic that's close to what you are talking about. If only everyone did that. :)
