Internal Storage/ Media Sync??

I noticed some movies and pics I downloaded went to my internal storage. I was able to move them to my SD. However, my question is: if I go to media sync and change it to SD storage for media download, will this change anything else on my phone??? Curious why downloads don't go to SD already...

Internal by default ... Camera and other apps may ask.
