I'm still a newbie with my Droid X. Can anyone tell me if it comes with any kind of preinstalled anti-virus protection? Or do I have to install that myself? If I do, what does everyone recommend?

No it is not pre-installed. I use Lookout Mobile Security myself with no issues with three Android devices.

No they are not..
But in my opinion you don't need it. You should not be installing stuff not in the market or from a well trusted source. No 4shared downloading or music from untrusted sites.
This is the main reason why in your settings, the unknown sources button is unchecked.
Also antivirus apps are constantly running in the background. So your battery is going to take a hit as well.
Just some pointers if you were looking at antivirus stuff for your phone.. :)

Agreed you should be fine with just an air push detection app.

As the others have said, no it does not come with antivirus as there really isn't any need. As long as you have a little bit of common sense and not click on anything that you aren't familiar with you have a pretty low chance of getting a virus. If you want peace of mind though, I've heard Lookout is a good antivirus app.

What is this "airpush" thing you guys speak of? Sorry, but I am mostly smartphone illiterate. I have been using Lookout for awhile and never gave it any thought after I installed it. Getting a new/used Bionic today and would rather not install apps that I dont really need. Please elaborate.

Airpush detector is an app that will detect if another app is sending notifications to your phone for advertising purposes. I only install and use it if I see those advertising notifications. Once I've found out which app is pushing the add, I delete the app and airpush detector. It is a manual use, once in a while utility application. My opinion is you don't need it on your phone unless you are having an issue.
