Is GPS navigation free on Droids without data plan?

Is GPS navigation free on Droids without data plan?
I'm getting mixed signals from reviews on the web some of which say that it's free if you use google maps.
But don't you need to use Verizon's data network to send/receive your location, which will cost?

Data plans are required with a Droid. So no.

It is a moot point, you HAVE to have the data plan so it doesn't matter 1 way or the other.

And even if it weren't, the mapping software the navigation uses is Google Maps (online). So even without the requsite data plan you would probably have some issues.

I don't think they'll let you get the Droid without the data plan. But, to answer your question, it would not be. The maps are not stored on your device. They are downloaded OTA using your data plan.
