Is there a way to add an app to the "default app" selections?

I tried to download a different video player and instaled it. When I clicked on a video on a site, it asked me to pick the app to run it with, but the new player was not on the list. Is there a way to add it to the list manually or is there a way somewhere else to pick the default apps for whatever functions you may be needing it for?

The action performed must match the apps ability to perform the action. If the app doesn't have the ability to associate itself with performing the action, there isn't a way to make it do what you want (that I know of).

Have you tried opening the app to ensure that it can actually perform the task assigned?
