Is there a way to make texts showup when the screen is off?

Ive noticed when I get texted it just says "droid" but the screen remains off.

It would be nice if when I got a text it popped up with what was texted me.

As it stands right now I have to press the power button, then slide the bar over to unlock the phone, then go to text messages, just to see a text.

Id love to hear I got one, glance at my phone and read what was sent to me. And then from that point be able to slide to unlock to response or just hit the power button to turn the screen off.

Absolutly! I'm not sure about the default app, but handcent has an option that shows up on the screen. Even better, it allows you to reespond, then relocks your phone after you send (iirc)

Also, if you prefer to stick with the stock Messenger program you can download SMS Popup. I beleive they are both free so check em out and see what you like.

the LED isnt enough for ya? Handcent is surely the shiznit tho... (whatever that is)

Cool Ill have to try those out. Hey while I have people here does anyone know why I dont see the Voice anymore?

I use to be able to ue voice to search straight from the google search widget on my home screen
And I could also use it on maps

but now it is no longer anywhere. The mic button isnt even tjhere

odd, try long pressing the search key. This will give you the voice recognition, but idk about the app. Try deleting the widget then putting it hback on the page, or fcing the widget

Anyone know of an application that will do this for email as well?

90% of the reason I set my screen to "never off" is I don't want to go thru the hassle of waking the phone and unlocking it to check a message or email.

you made another thread saying you rooted your phone and then went back to stock, if so you will have to do a factory reset to regain the voice command button.

With either SMS popup or Handcent; if you can respond without waking and unlocking the phone, do any of you ever run in to the problem of pocket dialing a response if you get a text and don't answer/check it for a while? This is something I'd definitely be interested in but there are also lots of times I will get texts with my phone in my pocket but either don't hear them or am not able to answer for a while, and I wouldn't want to be pocket dialing random gibberish responses the whole time.
