Is there an app to disable "dock" mode?

After an extensive, PAINSTAKING, search I've found a couple of leather belt cases that are large enough to comfortably carry my Droid with the hard rubberized case sold by Verizonwireless installed on the Droid. The trouble is those few I've found that work well all have magnetic clasps that either put the Droid into car dock mode or at least wake up the Droid from sleep. Of course that is unacceptable. The magnets are too deeply integrated into the leather of the case to remove them. (between two layers of leather sewn together.

We can disable WiFi. We can disable Bluetooth. We SHOULD be able to disable car dock mode. 90% of Droid owners will never buy the dock and might like to use a case with a magnetic clasp. Motorola has no incentive to fix this because they WANT us to buy the dock but I wonder if there is an app that COULD disable dock mode completely.

Those of you with some familiarity with Google code may know if it is even POSSIBLE to write such an app?

Thanks!

PS - please don't explain to me why I am better off without the hard case I use or with some other hard case in this thread. This thread is about disabling dock mode.

I do not believe there is a option to turn it off. Maybe a hope of someone writing a app for it, or possibly rooting your device and deleting the app. Even though it is not what you want to hear getting a case without a magnet is going to be the best (easiest) option. But hopefully one of the guys that can hack the droid will find your thread and be able to offer up some better advice for you.

There is nothing that is sewn together that cannot be taken apart and put back.

Undo the sewing and take out the magnet, and if you cannot re-sew it, then take the case to any:

A. Tailor.

Or better yet because it is leather;

B. A shoe repair place, which would work out better because they are used to sewing leather, my pick.

Too much trouble and expense. It is glued as well as sewn. I can tell because there is no stitching around the magnet. The stitching holds the layers of leather together at the edges. The glue keeps them tight in the middle.

Anyway - are there any shoe repair places still in business these days?

I would never hack the phone myself but I would try an app that does as I wish.

Have you ever noticed how few cases do NOT use magnetic clasps? Can't be more than 1 in 100. Now try to find one of those few big enough to fit the Droid with hard case installed.

Happy but sad...

Surely someone can develop an app to disable those sensors... :( I love my case I hate having to check and see if the phone turned back on when I slid it in... There are only two things I want turned on when I slide it in, my girlfriend, and the microwave, not my dang phone, come on Motorola, fix it… :p

Did you see this case? It specifically states the magnets will not put it into any mode:

Premium Horizontal Leather Case

"Our Premium Horizontal Leather Case is made from a high quality, durable leather and secures your phone conveniently at your hip, pocket, or in your bag.

- Dual side elastic bands allow a perfect fit for your device
- Quality leather with classic black stitching to provide extra support
- Strong belt clip attaches easily and securely
- Two strong magnets ensure proper closing of front flap
*Note* magnets will NOT cause Droid to go into Car or Desktop Mode
- Designed to fit cased device"

I ordered the version for a nekkid Droid based on that note because I don't want a velcro enclosure. Hopefully it'll work.

There is an app out called Dock Blocker it is a buck but it says it works....

Worked like a charm, sort of, the phone will still wake up, but it stays locked and goes back to sleep shortly. So if you're like me and you only have the problem as you slide the phone in and out of the case past the magnet in the flap, and don't have a problem while it in the closed case, this should work for you. :)

I've only played with it for thirty minutes or so, but the phone hasn't unlocked its self yet.

Thanks Joey

I have this problem as well. Most times, I don't want the Droid in the dock mode when I have it in my car dock. It messes up my Home++ and causes a lot of Force Close errors.

I also use the Verizon hard rubber snap on case as well as a large horizontal leather case to carry my Droid. I solved the problem with the Droid waking up from the case's magnet by turning the Droid so that the screen side is facing out toward the magnetic closure. The Droid only wakes up when the back of the phone is facing the magnetic clasp on the case. I would preferably want to keep my Droid in the case with the glass screen facing toward my body for protection, so I might check out that Dock Blocker app. Thanks. :)

Edit: Just purchased the Dock Blocker app. It seems to be working for my leather case with two magnets. The screen comes on for a second or two, then will return to standby. Good stuff. :)

I will try it out in the card dock later.

Turn it around

This is an old thread but just in case anyone's still interested...

I have a case with a magnet clasp but I figured out right away that I simply need to put the phone in with the screen facing out and I have no problems.

Here's a new twist: I want to have the Car Home app go away and never come back. However, I use Setting Profiles to sense when my phone is docked to the OEM car mount, and change my profile accordingly. Anyone have an idea or an app on how to disable Car Home without killing the functionality of the magnet? Does Dock Blocker do this? I'm not looking to root, so please leave that option out. Thanks.

I've been using dock awake to suppress the dock apps, both media and car docks.
