Is there an IM app similar to Blackberry's Messanger?

I am a new Droid convert who left his BB behind. One of the things I miss about my BB is the the BB messenger app which allowed me to ping another user to notify the user on the other end that I was trying to get in touch with them. I have tried Google Talk but as far as I can tell this does not offer the same ping option.

I did a search on this forum and could not find one that is highly recommended. Is there an Droid app similar to the BB messenger? Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

Nope, nothing similar to BBM.

I do miss the PIN to PIN setup of BBM and the file transfer abilities (never used the ping feature), but gtalk is a pretty good messenger client.

This is the one thing I too miss about the BB Tour.
I like the fact that it displayed when it was delivered and read.

Would be nice to see it in the DROID.

Since GTalk is what is supposed to be the "native" IM, on the Droid Series phone, does anyone know how to get to the proper persons at Google to advise on enhancements? I too am a convert from BB and BBM, and GTalk needs some serious mods.

Maybe I'm just not getting it but isn't leaving a note saying "Hey, I want to talk to you" just as good as pinging someone?

I understand that Gtalk is not like BB Messenger, but I really don't see any difference in trying to talk to someone then I did with BB Messenger.

And the last time I saw BB Messenger it had quite a few bugs. Was it really that great?

LOL...i left BB but i preferred IM (AIM,Yahoo,Gtalk etc). you want to ping them just type "PING" thats what i do. or a simple "Hey", no?
