Issues transferring data onto the Droid. Out of space but plenty of it.

I'm using my Droid as essentially a jump drive sometimes.

Today I have to copy a 6GB file from a computer onto the phone but I get an error message:

"Cannot copy ------: There is not enough free disk space. Delete one or more files to free up disk space, and then try again"

When I check the free space on the card (through My Computer) it says I have 11.4GB free (and this morning I deleted roughly 7GB worth of files) so I know I have the room.

Any thoughts? It seems like I can copy smaller files.

I've shut the phone off and turned it back on in the hopes that perhaps it would "fix itself" but yeah...

When mounted my phone says that the "Total Space" and "Available Space" are unavailable.
When not mounted, my phone says I have 14.83 of Total Space and 11.44GB of Available Space

google limitations of FAT32. you can't copy files larger than 4GB at a time. you can copy all 16GB of data from one device to another, but no single file can be larger than 4GB.

use winrar to split the file if you really must have it.

Ah. Thank you that makes sense.
