JB won't install on my phone no matter what.

I've fastbooted so i'm completely on stock. No safestrap, or custom ROM.

The OTA didn't work but that was before fastboot so I've been trying to flash JB manually.

I've wiped data and cache before this.

I place the JB file on my ext. sd card.

I go into recovery and hit install from sd card and choose the JB.

It starts to update, but it gives me this error shortly after.
"Verifying update package
Failed to verify whole-file signature
Signature verification failed
Installation Aborted"


I've redownloaded the JB files from two different places and so I don't think its the files are corrupt. I don't know where else to go from here. I always do it with above 60% battery so that isn't a issue either.

Any help? :/ Thinking of un-rooting my phone in general to see if that makes it work.

Unknown sources checked under security & lock screen? Not sure if this makes a difference?

Signature verification failed makes me think that its a bad file, or the wrong file. If you are still rooted, temp unroot and protect with Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper before trying. Also, if you do that, why not just take the OTA at this point?

i agree, more than likely you since you are still rooted it is blocking that update from starting (even though it is a hard update and not OTA) i would protect root then temp unroot like GoCliff said.

The ota didn't work before and i lost OTA when I fast booted.
I have voodoo ota rootkeeper installed.but it still.didnt work

I had the same problem. I just downloaded the CM10 4.22 that uses the ICS kernel. Everything functions well so far.

Hope I am not annoying you but another thing is ensure you are completely stock..nothing frozen or removed..being rooted shouldn't be an issue..I forgot a few times to temp unroot on a few updates..but kept with stock os and the only thing was lost root after the update

I can assure you I am completely stock and nothing else after I fastbooted.

Motorola support couldn't even pick up that I was rooted or anything. They said that it seems like I haven't reprogrammed the phone in any way or mention me being rooted.

Finally it worked.

It ended up being a corrupt download.

I downloaded from another mirror and it worked flawlessly. Thanks for all your help though.

If could list your current Android version and which zip file you downloaded (update to Christmas leak or update from ICS to JB), one of us may be able to help. Also, is your phone stock or rooted?

just making sure but is that .zip file on the ROOT of your sd card, not in the /downloads or any other folder on the sd card?
