Locked bootloader = no custom kernel

The latest bootloader came with the 2.3.340 system files in the OTA update. If you have that on your device, you are good to go.

Edit: I meant to say latest kernel came with the 2.3.40 update...

yeah, unfortunately you are stuck with the stock kernel with the X.

you are probably coming from a completely open droid, like the original or something. you have to be careful with the X.

make sure the ROM you are going to be flashing is compatable with the current system version on the phone. if you mess this up, you WILL brick your phone and you will have to flash an SBF to get it back on track. if you have any questions, dont hesitate to send me a PM.

Yeah. I have been considering returning my droid for this reason. Once motorola stops updates there will be no custom roms like there are with other devices. In otherwords, if motorola doesn't want us having 2.3, then we don't get it.
