im new to android, so try and keep it simple haah

oh and one more, i saved 2 pictures and a ringtone from a MMS message, but now i cant find them, where did they go?

A launcher is the bar at the bottom of the home screen that has the icons for phone/browser/app drawer and the buttons for changing screens. It usually includes the app drawer itself. The current top 2 are either ADW Launcher or Launcher Pro.

For media player, do you want video or audio? Most people recommend rockplayer for video and either 3 (aka cubed), mixzing, btunes for audio.

To delete apps, you'd go into settings > applications > manage applications. HOWEVER, system apps can't be uninstalled without root access.

The pictures/ringtone should be on the SD card somewhere, probably in a download folder. The gallery should find the pictures automatically and I bet most media players would be able to find that ringtone. If you really can't find them, mount the card to the computer and search that way.

As for recommendations, get some sort of file manager (EStrongs or Astro), Barcode Scanner (so you can use all the handy QR codes on the 'net) and get rid of any task killer/antivirus that VZW might have installed on your phone for you in a misguided attempt to be helpful.

Harrellj pretty much answered all of your questions so I just have some recommendations for you. :reddroid:

Get SDRESCAN. A lot of times if you save a pic or even take a pic with your camera it doesn't show up right away in your gallery. Download SDrescan from the market for free. Then click the icon. When you do that it automatically rescans your s.d. card. When it is done it will ask you to close and exit. Then you can go right to your gallery or file explorer app and find what you have saved.

Next is PICSAY. If you want to edit your pics or just completely demolish them this is the app to use. It's way better than the photoshop app.

I hope that I was able to help. Have fun with your new Android. dancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroiddancedroid

wow thanks, both of you, that was quite helpful. Would you reccomend rooting it? i know absolutely nothing about it, so would i be left with just a blank phone and have to completely customize the ROM/themes/whatever else i would need? cuz idk if im savvy enough to do that.

All rooting does is give you superuser access and access to system files. The phone is perfectly functional without rooting. I'd advise you to use the phone for a bit and decide whether you want to root. Root access allows you to install a custom ROM, but you don't have to and can be running rooted stock. It also allows access to uninstalling those system apps like I mentioned, as well as running themes or overclocking it (when themes and kernels are available).

Personally, on my D1, I bought it on release day last November and only rooted a couple of months ago.

Yeah, yeah.. I'm on my phone. So?

Yeah. Don't root just yet. You got a lot to learn and enjoy from the new phone. Keep it stock for a few months. While your are getting to know your phone check out the Root forums and read up on what it's all about.
