Just rooted

I just rooted mt Eris and it is awesome! i got my Eris about a week ago and loved it and am really loving what i can with it rooted.

At the moment until i get time to research more into all the possibilities that i have with it being rooted, i just would like to use the wifi tether and the CPU over and under clocking, those are all i need at the moment.

Can some of you experts out there give me a few pointers on what to not do/stay away from so that i do not screw my phone up on accident? i'd rather not turn my Eris into a nice paperweight. Thanks and you guys are awesome on this forum, this i a really great place to learn about stuff and not be criticized to badly for being a noob at this stuff.

Thanks
Tory M.

Welcome to the "dark side" I have a Moto Droid so the roms for my phone are different.

The best advice I can provide/offer

Before you make any change to your phone always, always, make a backup. A solid backup can save your phone and lots of aggravation for you.

I just got my eris 2 weeks ago and want to root it what method did you use and what rom did you chose? Was your phone 2.1 to start? Im confused on what roms to pic I dont want a phone that wont fucntion like it did before the root. I use my phones internet for my laptop and don want to lose it. Can you give me some feedback?
Thanks

Thanks for the Info Mike, I am doing that as we speak. Is there an app that you like to use to do it with that works better than others?

This is the method that I used, it's really straight forward, and it doesn't require a computer or any code changing, I had 2.1 installed on my Eris when i rooted it and it works great, it goes from unrooted 2.1 to rooted 2.1 (if my understanding is correct....) here's the URL for the instructional:

Universal Eris Root for Dummies! - Android Forums

All i can say is, follow the instructions to the letter, bricking a phone would suck, and back up your SD card on your computer if you can, nothing happened to mine but it always pay to be on the safe side; the only thing that i wish i had done was to write down all the apps i had installed so i could get them later, i am currently going through the market trying to find all the ones i had installed.

I used the Rom that the instructional mentioned, here's the URL:

[ROM]Plain_JaneT2 V2.0 7/18/10 Stock With everything ROOT!! - xda-developers

it's called PlainJaneT2 V2.0 it's version 2.0 of PlainJane but it is 2.1 Android version, it is exactly like what my phone had on it before i rooted. It allows you to use it as a wifi tether and it gives you super access, the only things i can see that are much different (people who know more can correct me if i am wrong, thanks :) ) but it functions like it did when not rooted. Ask any more questions and i'll try to help but for more detailed info, it would be better to ask one of the guys who know what they're doing.

I use SPRecovery to backup my OS. I'm not sure if that is available for the Eris. For my apps and data use Titanium and MyBackup Pro.

Thanks I have also been looking into the same method you did I was just really on clear on the roms and I have that exact rom downloaded I was just scared it wouldnt function the same I couldnt ever find or get a direct answer from anybody that you for your imput and Congrads on your root Hopefully I wont be far behind you. How do you back up your phone? And have you overclocked yours yet?

Overall, from start to finish, it took about 20-30 mins, it wasn't long at all. Yes i have overclocked it, i bought SetCPU and it works great for it. I'm not exactly sure how the Amon_RA works, but it is part of the this rooting process, and then you can do quite a bit of other things from it once its there, you can even put new Roms on your phone with it from what i could tell....
Thanks again for the Info Mike, i got both of those apps and am backing up all my stuff via them.
