K-9 Weirdness

I am using K-9 email for my verizon and gmail email accounts. Verizon is the default. I have my settings set so that mail is deleted from the server when deleted from the droid. This afternoon I looked in K-9 and all of the emails from my Verizon inbox were gone. Not in the trash folder but gone, kaput. There were maybe 30 or so of them. I don't think any more than that. I checked my Verizon email account online and that inbox is also empty. Not in that trash folder either. And, there should have been some in the online inbox that were not in the K-9 inbox, but I'm not totally sure about that.
Gmail was unaffected.
Any ideas on what caused this?

K-9 creates it's own trash folder, are they in there?

Nope - not there. The only emails in there are what I manually deleted over the last few weeks.

Sometimes in K9 it also gets stuck on "Load 25 more messages" and lists nothing, even tho their is mail in the account..
