Free on the Play Store but has in app purchases.
komoot Hike Bike GPS Maps - Android Apps on Google Play
This is a nice app if you're into running, hiking, biking, fishing or anything else you might want to track/map off of the beaten path or even on roads should you be a road biker or, like me, walk as many places as possible.
The in app purchases are for buying "regions" of maps but new users can choose 3 regions for free, including download of maps for offline use. The only reason you need a data connection is when planning a trip. After planning the trip it all works offline once the map is downloaded. Maps can be saved either on the phone or to the sd card and with each of my 3 freebies being 2+GB each I chose the card.
Samsung has a companion app for their Tizen based watches that works much better for me than the Here combo of phone and built in watch app (bloatware) on my S .
I wrote this small review in wearables because of the companion app for the Samsung watches. It does need to be tethered to the phone but gives turn by turn directions on the watch
Here's a few screen shots of a mountain bike route from my house to my dads

Here's a route I made as a trial on the watch today. I was able to post it on Facebook from it on the phone for those interested in that sort of stuff. The photo of the birds was added by me as well.

8 minute tour? Wild man! :D

Looks like a cool app.
No it was actually longer. I just recorded that leg to try out the app. A lot of my friends have asked about that particular trail so I posted the app results on Facebook so they could see where the park is, get elevation differences for a walking , etc . S Health map is actually much more useful for me but the only thing I could post for it is screen shots, no upload to a server to share publicly.
This is what posted on Facebook when tapping the link

The coolest part was running both at the same time on the watch then syncing to their respective apps on the phone for more details.
