Some of our friends over at mydroidworld.com got hold of a leaked Gingerbread (2.3.3) update for the Droid 2. The official release should be here within the next few weeks. Luckily, they have decided to share it with the Android community now. ;)

You must be rooted to get this one. Here are the install instructions below:
Installing Firmware

1. Download this file from the TBH app or download below
2. Use Bootstrap to get your phone into recovery.
3. Create a backup (This is not compatible with new firmware)
4. Install the Firmware using recovery
1. select install zip from sdcard
2. choose zip from sdcard
3. navigate to teamblackhat folder
4. select the file you downloaded
5. Restart phone
6. Re-activate your phone
1. dial *228
2. select 1

If your phone bootloops you need to wipe data to enter recovery:

1. hold down x and power button
2. when you see the triangle hold down both volume buttons
3. select wipe data/factory reset ---press power button to select
4, reboot system

If your phone asks you to select/create an account

1. press the home button
2. go to accounts (you may be sent there automatically)
3. select done
Also, here are some tips/warnings:
1) This build has not been able to be rooted, this is not unexpected as we have not been able to root any of the other versions of Gingerbread that we have.

2) I am working on a solution so that when you do get this you will have root. (community will work on it now)

3) You can sbf the 2.3.20 zip file from TBH to get back to stock to take the update whenever verizon pushes it out.

4) YOU WILL NEED TO ERASE YOUR DATA IF YOU BOOTLOOP.

Im pretty sure that theres one for the X too. There are multiple threads in the X forum about it. Lots of ppl running it and they all seem to like it a lot.....

To those of you wondering, z4root does not work on the 2.3.3 release. It may seem obvious to most, as it did to me, but I tried it just for kicks anyway. Although I was fairly confident in the app, so I went ahead and observed no ill effects. It goes to show that the standard exploit can't be used. :( Just wanted to let you know! After all its forum code right?

ok so after updating my phone to the leak, my phone no longer shows up on RSD lite =/.....HELP!! lol

Give us your procedure...maybe there is a step missing. I haven't done any more research on the TBH leak so it could be an inherent issue. You have the latest RSD correct? Updated drivers and all that nonsense?

So, it seems that you do, but do you need to root for this? I haven't rooted or messed with ROMS in a while... or can it be run as if it was an OTA?

Uninstall?

I created a backup in bootstrap before I installed this. Now this ROM is not running well on my DX. How do I go back to 2.2.1?

You need root to install this yes. I installed with bootstrap no prob. However you do lose root once it is running.

Are you familiar with the system boot file and flashing it with RSD lite? There are tons of tutorials out there.

Since this unroots the device, are there any app backup / restore apps that don't require root? I usually use Titanium so I'm not losing my apps and data, but that wouldn't work here. I definitely want to give this GB ROM a try, but I don't want to deal with reinstalling all my apps yet again.
