letter password instead of unlock pattern?

is it possible to make an actual password to secure my droid instead of the unlock pattern? i thought i did it once, but can't seem to find it again. and now i don't even remember if i really did it or i'm thinking of something else.

wait for cyanogenmod 6 or download another froyo rom. It gives you three options pattern, pin, or password to unlock the screen.

There are apps but, as mentioned above, Froyo has the options stock.
