We don't even have the Pixel 2 yet and we are already seeing rumors on the 2018 version of the Pixel phone by Google. In years pas Google has employed OEMs to produce their Nexus phones. Those OEMs have pretty much had control over the design and production of those phones. Last year Google changed it up a bit and took over in terms of the design of the phone. They partnered with HTC to build the Pixel, but didn't give HTC any credit and didn't allow HTC's branding on the phone.
There have been recent reports that Google is looking for a more stable OEM who can provide more stability in manufacturing. The report also points out that the firm has worked with LG successfully on previous devices such as the Nexus 4, Nexus 5 and Nexus 5X, and that Google has offered to invest about $880 million in LG's OLED display division which would help them secure OLED panels for pixel phones. The report also mentions that LG may even help manufacture upcoming Pixel devices like the Pixel 2.
LG has officially denied these claims. Ken Hong director of Global Communications for LG says the information from the report is "speculation to the highest degree", and that LG does not "deal in rumors or speculation." How would you like an LG built Pixel phone? I for one would love to see the LG G6 running stock Android.
