Yesterday we shared a rumor that LG is likely planning the launch of their next superphone, the Optimus G2, later on in the year. Supposedly, an executive at LG has confirmed that rumor and specifically named the IFA event in September as the launch time for the device. Here's a quote with the details,

According to an anonymous LG executive quoted by the Korea Times, the Optimus G2 will be announced at the IFA trade show, taking place in Berlin on September 6-11 2013:

The processors will be used in LG’s next flagship Optimus smartphone ― the Optimus GII ― which will probably be unveiled in this fall’s IFA trade fair,’’ said an LG official by telephone, Thursday.

The snippet is from an article that discusses the new octo-core processor that LG is working on, codenamed Odin. Korea Times’ post also confirms what we’ve told you yesterday – the Optimus G2 will be powered by LG’s newly designed Odin octo-core processor.

It seems like LG is making some great strides lately with excellent devices and great marketing, but we must admit to being a bit skeptical about the strategy behind this move. The Optimus G Pro is a pretty big deal. Perhaps bringing out another flagship just 6 months after their first for the year seems like it is taking cues from the playbook of HTC and Motorola and that hasn't really worked out very well for them. What do you guys think?
