Folks in the birth-country of the LG G2 who own that device will be getting a taste of Android 4.4.2 soon. The newest version of Android has started rolling out to that device in South Korea. That's not the only treat they are getting. Apparently, this update also includes ART. Nope... we aren't talking about some fancy wallpapers, or built-in pics of the Mona Lisa; ART stands for Android RunTime.
ART supplants the Dalvik runtime with a new system that switches the compiler from "just-in-time" to "ahead-of-time." Here's a quote with a few more details,
Look at it this way. With Dalvik, when you open an app, the bytecode of the app is not compiled until you open the app. With ART, the bytecode is compiled when you install the app. This way, the app is practically all ready to run before you even open it for the first time. Based on the screenshot, it looks like Korean LG G2 owners will have the option to toggle between Dalvik and ART.
This is obviously handy for developers. Incidentally, this update is actually a few days late as it was supposed to arrive at the end of January. At any rate, the scuttlebutt is that this update will come to the U.S. LG G2 sometime before the end of the first quarter (the end of March).
