If you can't beat 'em, follow 'em. That's not the way the old saying goes, but it seems to be LG's new moto for new products. According to a recent trademark filing, the Korean electronics giant has several new devices in the works: a G Prime smartphone, an F Prime smartphone, an L Prime smartphone, and a W Prime Smartphone.

The first three seem to make some sense, as LG has a series of devices for each of those alphabetical letters; however, we have never heard of an LG W series product until now.

What do you think? Is this a wise or foolish move by LG?

Also... what's up with this being a huge day for LG news? I guess these things go in spurts...

I have no problem with a company offering different versions of their phones, as long as they make us aware that yes in fact they will offer different variations before hand. Take HTC for example and the M8, they denied a prime version of the phone would becoming out till after the M8 was released, at which point made me feel like "what the heck did I buy the M8 for if you were going to release a better one a few months later?!" Luckily I wasn't the only one who felt this way and HTC listened and backpedaled.

Looks like peeps will do the wait and see thing. Not good for LG as they won't get the numbers on the G3.

I think the S5 may be the last phone I will buy sight unseen right at release. There are more and more reasons for me to just be patient. These "Prime" devices, devices with more color selection, the sizes getting too large, Android not advancing as fast as it did before, the focus on wearables, etc. The G2 and the M8 are going to do me fine for daily drivers. I have the Nokia Icon keeping me happy in the "New Toy!" catagory.

Too lazy to look for it now, but there was a study showing that people are more likely to pay more for the same product if it contains words like "Premium" or "Exclusive"

I find it weird that they are applying that even more to phones

I mentioned this in the thread that discusses the possibility of a G3 Prime variant and realized that if it's true then it's essentially a LG Optimus Prime... Lol
