Little boxes w/dots

Ok, so these little boxes with the dots that I "assume" you are supposed to scan - well how, with what and how do they work?

I have seen one to enter a contest but have no idea how to do it.

Something like the image below? If so they are called QR Codes and you can scan them to install software to your phone using an app called Barcode Scanner.

google goggles is the best, IMO.

Barcode scanner hardly ever worked for me, although I think it had more to do with the droid camera autofocus

Yes, that is the boxes. I do have bar code scanner, it doesn't really work too well. I have shop savy too. I thought it was the barcode scanner, but again, that doesn't work too well.

Diordna - how the heck do you look something up on Google when you don't even know what it is called?! type in something like, black box with dots....yeah right. But, thanks for the tip.
