Loosing connection thru USB during a transfer or

Accessing large ammount of files in a folder it just randomly drops the usb connection and resets. I can not figure out what is causing it for the life of me. Does it on my home pc of win 7 and my work pc which has XP.

Also I can only use media device and not check mass storage device..
