"Lost" storage space with factory reset?

libster

New Member
Using/viewing storage via usb mount on Mac:
* approx 14GB free space
* drag/drop approx 4GB data (music!) to droid
* approx 10GB space left (math is correct)
* factory reset - erase all private data, music gone, etc
* remount (to recopy 4GB data, etc)

*** STILL approx 10GB free space!! I was expecting 14GB free again, no?

I've manually checked from the top level of FS
that none of the folders have 4GB of data.. it seems
that the 4GB space is.. lost? Music is definitely gone..

Any help, hints? Pointers appreciated!

Thanks for quick response. That's very good to know.

I appear to have recovered the 4GB. How to make this sound sane..

After factory reset (or so I think), empty file structure (as in
file folders) was still sitting around on phone. Yes, file folders
but no .m4a files (kinda make sense from unix perspective). I
put all of this in the Mac trash, throughout day un/re/mounted phone
numerous times.

Later WHILE phone mounted, had idea to empty Mac trash - voila! Space
is back. Probably good that I emptied trash whilst phone was mounted.
Note to self: when using phones and macs at fs mounting level, always
act accordingly.

Registered just to say thank you for posting your solution libster. I had the same issue with "missing" storage on my Incredible after deleting a ton of photos I had put on my phone. Never would have thought I had to empty the trash. THANK YOU!
