Love my Droid4...but...

Hello everyone! I love my Droid 4...however I hate restricted calls, private numbers. I've been reading the forum and trying to figure out the best course of action. I am NOT technically inclined, although I once was of a different opinion. I have no idea about roots and boots and the phone lingo being used.

I signed up for Google voice to try to block unwanted calls, but was so confused when trying to set it up, I just deleted it!

I need a something that says.....

Step 1---Turn on Phone
Step 2---do this, do that...

Any suggestions for an easy call blocking program that a 3-5 year old can configure? :)

I guess that depends on who you are trying to block,, if its telemarketers call the national do not call phone number to add your phone number to the list, that number you can Google, if it is ppl in your phone book, you can send them directly to vm from your phone book settings, and there are several apps in the app market that do that very thing, you just have to try a few of them and see which one works the best and easiest for you.

Welcome. Yes you need to root (which is admin level access to your phone) in order to use block call apps.

Welcome to Droid Forums!! Hopefully you are able to get it all figured out in no time

you can use the motofail exploit or the d4 utility to root your phone. it is really simple. all you need is a PC, the latest moto drivers (which are on Motorola's website under drivers) and you are set. its basically one click and your off. just Google motofail or d4 utility and follow the link and instructions.
All call block apps require root access to use. The one I would suggest is Mr. number. It is very simple to use, when someone calls you you don't want to answer you chose ignore and it will as if you want to do a pick up hang up or send to voice mail. Then every time that number calls it will automatically do it for you an the first ring.

Mainly, I would like to block calls that show up as "restricted number". Over the past two weeks, I have received approximately 20 per day. It's just annoying and Verizons answer is to change my number.

When I get a restricted or blocked call I use the ignore function and it gives a list of messages to return to the caller. I set up a custom message that reads "unblock your number and call back". That is a stock function of the phone. Instead of swiping right to answer just swipe left.

Thanks so much. I have been using the ignore feature so it goes directly to my voicemail. Can you further enlighten on how to set up the custom message for calls that are ignored. I am trying to avoid changing my number to stop the unwanted calls, and just not as technically inclinded as I thought!!

I am such a chicken. I did as you said...and getting ready to push the button, and I sit here looking at it instead. It has only taken me 2 days to get this far. Maybe tomorrow!

Thanks for all of your help!

Welcome to the site. Hope you got brave enough to push the button! DancingNexus
