Magnetic holder affecting compass on Droid?

I've noticed that when I snap my phone into the Verizon windshield mount that the compass on ALL my apps that use one tend to point west (GPS Status, Compass, Maverick Pro). I can take the phone from the holder and the compass corrects as it moves away, and then screws up again as it nears the holder. There must be an internal compass mechanism thats affected by the magnet in the windshield mount that tells it to switch to car dock mode, but I find it a little difficult to believe this would not have been taken into account in the design, I mean, everyone knows what happens to a compass when a magnet is near... Anyone else see this problem?

I know this isn't exactly what you are talking about but I've read that the Verizon hoster with the magnetic lid can effect the phone also. I'm trying to find out more info about that now.
