Main capacitive buttons stay lit all the time watching movies. Normal?

Does anybody know if the capacitive main buttons on the bottom of the phone are supposed to stay lit all the time while watching videos or movies? I was watching a show on Net Flix for 30 minutes and they stayed on all the time. This is annoying.. Especially in the dark.. Is this normal? And its there a way to turn them off while watching movies

Ok. so they only stay lit all the time in the dark. Which I can understand, but still is very annoying. I don't want them on all the time while watching a movie in the dark...
