Wow. I have generally been happy with nexus, battery drain hasn't been too bad....until today...I went out for a run listening to streaming radio and using a GPS based fitness tracker which calculates miles run, calories, etc...and they killed my battery in about 2 hours! I guess GPS and streaming internet radio at the same time doesn't mix well with this phone :(

When you're streaming audio, you should probably switch to CDMA only. You don't need LTE for that. And see if you can change how often the fitness app checks for location. If it's checking non-stop, that'll hurt the battery.

What Larry said.

LTE and GPS will just suck the life out of the battery fairly quickly, as you've experienced first hand. You should just try 3g mode (CDMA) as it won't effect the audio quality and it'll save a ton more battery. I'm not sure what app you're using as a fitness tracker, but if you can periodically check instead of a constant connection that'll save battery as well.

Forget LTE - GPS is the single thing on the phone that can drain it faster than the screen.

I bet your phone was so hot you could boil an egg on it also!

I only use GPS for long periods when I'm in the car and the phone is plugged in. Any phone - not just the Nexus.

yep. my GN battery was draining faster than it was charging with the GPS on-and it actually died while charging :icon_eek:

I experienced this too. I was using GPS and streaming Google music via Bluetooth to my Pioneer head unit. I had 4G on but the majority of the trip was a non-4G area. I took it off the charger and it was at 0% :-0

yeah, a constant pull of 4g data and GPS tracking your location is going to kill any phone in a couple hours.

I'm going to consider myself one of the fortunate ones, since my G-nex will actually charge in my car while navigating and streaming music. I'm not sure if it's the hardware or my rom/kernel combo. Could also be my Samsung car charger.

This is off OP's topic and more to what Big Ry and Benson are talking about:

Wasn't there a thread a week or so back with something about the charger specifically for the G-Nex having two of the pins bridged and the charger being at a specific amperage that is actually different than the standard USB cable? I will see if I can find that discussion and post it here... or I just may be crazy.

Found it!

This is also very informative:

Also, OP, you may want to search before making a new thread. In searching for that thread I also came across these in the first 30 seconds:

(They may not all be about battery drain, but all equally appropriate places to bring up questions about your battery experiences plus there will already be a handful of people subscribed to the thread who can respond.)

Google music is notorious. When you have some time make what you want "available offline". GM will download it locally.
