mark unread mail read feature?

there isn't a way to select unread and then mark them read like on the web that i can see, anyone have a solution? Or another email program, i am using the gmail icon for mail now, and i find it a tad lacking in features.

sure there is, just tag each message you want to mark as read, then hit the menu, one of the options will be mark as read. you can also mark as unread.

It's quite astonishing that the gmail client does not have a 'Select all' function. With the number of emails I get every day, it's impractical to manually select each mail to be marked as read.

Right now I too have had to resort to going to the PC version and marking them read there, which is quite a pain because I don't use the browser gmail at all otherwise (I use outlook).
