Messaging app and notification app

Does anyone know of a good messaging app simliar to BlackBerry Messenger?? I miss that the most... Also an application that will let you alter your notifications so you get a different alert for different events on the Droid? Like one sound when you get an email versus a different sound for a text messgae??

I have fortunately never had to deal with a Blackberry for more than a day, so I can't tell you what is similar. I can tell you that Handcent and ChompSMS are probably two of the more popular Messaging app replacements on the Droid (personally I prefer Handcent, because ChompSMS does not support MMS and that falls back to the native messaging app)

As for notifications. If you go into e-mail you can select the notification specifically for e-mail, same for Messaging, etc. Whichever one's you don't specificy will fall back on the default ringtone you set in your system settings, but virtually all apps that have a notification allow you to set a specific notification for that app.
