microSD card help please! lost data?

I just noticed today that like 85% of all my pictures are gone. At closer inspection, I see that I am missing a lot of data from the SD card. I was hovering around 1GB free now I have like 3.76GB free. My questions are as follows:

1) Is there any function where the system automatically cleans itself or makes room when the SD card is running low on storage? I haven't enabled anything like this. Disclosure: The only file management stuff I have on here is Root Explorer(rarely used) and Astro Viewer.

2) I've never had any SD card go bad on me. Could certain parts just be corrupt? If so, can anyone recommend a recovery tool? I really just want the pictures back. Everything else is replaceable.

Thanks in advance folks.

To my knowledge there is nothing that will remove files to make room on your SD card.

There is a SD recovery tool, well there was an app for windows mobile, it didn't work.

Perhaps you had an unauthorized user playing with your phone who didn't know what they were doing.

so weird, looks like all the pictures ended up in the \DCIM\.thumbnails directory. every video I've ever shot (except 1) or any large movie I ever stored on the SD card is gone though. I have Titanium Backup installed but never bothered to use it. Oh well.

Please Help!!! My Droid 2 Did the exact same thing!

I was watching some videos im my Gallery, and then all of the sudden some of the thumbnails dissapeared, I went to try and play the videos and the phone told me that It was Unable To Play The File. I then went to go look at some of my pictures, and the thumbnails weren't displaying either. I decided to turn of & on my phone a few times, even tried a couple battery pulls trying to resolve the problem.... and then the files ended up Dissapearing Completely!!!!

Is there any way to get these important files back????

PLEASE HELP~!!!!!
