Microsoft continues to pump out Android apps like it's no tomorrow, and the latest which will be coming in December is a new dialer app. It should come as no surprise that Microsoft is cranking out apps for their arch-rival's OS. We shouldn't forget that the might MS actually rakes in billions of dollars per year in patent licensing fees from Android OEMs.

At any rate, Microsoft's dialer app for Android will be called Microsoft Dialer (how creative), and will have a few features that might make it stand out. Besides the obvious ability to dial out, it will also enable users to voice-call friends and family via slower cellular networks, 2G and 3G included. Of course, the other party would also need to have the app installed as well.

According to the intel regarding this app, that's not all we can expect. Supposedly Microsoft is baking in the following additional features:
  • Users can search for the phone numbers of people or venues nearby and call them from within the app
  • It will also allow users to block spam callers on the fly as it fetches real-time information about the person calling you.
Not bad. The public beta should be coming sometime next month, and the entire app is being developed by Microsoft's Skype team.

I'm wondering if this won't be a "new thing" ..with security being a huge issue and all of the problems with security.. Will we see bigger companies start to put out more apps and squeeze out the smaller companies? They could put more into the development of them and hopefully keep a tighter grip on security loopholes.. But even the big companies leave open doors..just thinking outloud.
