Microsoft purchases Skype for $8.5 Billion in Cash

Yes, Microsoft is buying Skype - The Term Sheet: Fortune's deals blog Fortune Finance

With the purchase, Skpye will become a wholly owned subsidiary of Microsoft and the current CEO will be reporting directly to Steve Ballmer going forward. Not sure what this will mean for anyone who already has the service, but considering the stake that Microsoft has in the Windows Phone, its not out of the realm of possibility to believe this is a bad move for us Android users. We could arguably see this becoming a paid app with limited free services in the near future while Windows Phone, Windows desktop/laptop OS, and the XBox with Kinect see a huge boost to their capabilities.

And yes, I know the story says 'Microsoft to purchase...' but the formal announcement was just made, but can't find a link to show.
