If you thought that the Microsoft vs. Motorola (and Motorola vs Microsoft) suits were calming down, think again. Microsoft yesterday filed another lawsuit against Motorola. This time for for charging "royalties that are excessive and discriminatory". The royalties are in relation to some networking and video coding technologies.
While I love my XBox, I think I've made it clear in the past that these types of lawsuits (and the patents being granted on software) are ridiculous. The only people to win in all of this are the patent lawyers. The consumer suffers, the big companies suffer and innovation suffers.
This is like a soap opera playing out right in front of our eyes with the courtroom as the backdrop. Regardless, here's to hoping that Motorola remains victorious on the Android phone front at the very least.
