Minor E-mail Annoyance

I have my e-mail app set-up to talk with my personal IMAP server and everything is working like it should. There's just one behavior that bugs me and I haven't been able to figure out how to modify it and I was hoping someone here could help. When I'm reading a message and then click the "delete" button, the mail app automatically opens the next message. I want it to just go back to the inbox instead. Does anyone know of a setting that can be tweaked to change this behavior? Thanks.

this is how the default email clietn works. you can continue to refresh your messages over and over and over and over again until all of your items have been read, but you have to select those items and mark them as read as they come in, no matter how old they are.

people seem to have better luck with k-9 mail.

if you can change your imap server to use POP3 instead, you can use GMAIL to check the mail and avoid using the default client altogether.
