If you are running an AOSP style rom like Cyanogen Mod and would like to see even more performance improvement than you are already seeing with your custom rom you may want to check out the PurePerformances MOD by developer "Jameseytickner". You will want to be sure to make a full Nandroid backup prior to flashing this mod. This is not one specific mod rather it is a list of mods that will enhance performance and battery life. Apparently testers were stunned by the difference they saw once the mod was flashed. Features include performance said to improve by 360%, lag removed, improvement of graphics, scan multimedia time reduced drastically, network improvements on 3G and 2G, all sqlite data base optimized, hardware features turned off by default, increases AnTuTu benchmark score, reduces startup time for Android, allows the playing of ported games without lag, cleans system every 24 hours, auto zipalign on every boot, battery life improved overall, and so much more! Check it out at the source link below.

Developers are constantly tweaking their roms to maximize performance...Hard for me to believe a one-size fits all solution like this could be anything more than a placebo effect, at best.

I would otherwise agree, if we didn't have such things as benchmark tools.

If your benchmark tool before and after shows an increase, then there may be something to this mod.

Agreed. When I flash a ROM I choose one I can use as a template to build on, then write my mods from there. Just wondering though,...how does disabling hardware support improve performance? I'm guessing that this refers to GPU and sound? As long as all your apps are compatible, I don't see why using software rendering on either would improve anything.
