Motorola Device Manager not recognized

So here I am with my monthly bug for my Droid RAZR M, the phone is not being recognized when I plug it in properly. It opens up a "Device Manager" that tells my to "Install Motorola Device Manager". So I do, and plug in my phone again so I could use the "Android File Transfer" app loaded on my Mac. Well, the same thing happens the device manager pops up and tells me to download. I've done this four times in slightly varied ways, it's not working, I cannot even find the Motorola manager on my computer, and because of this Android File Transfer, which does run when my phone gets plugged in, tells me "Could not connect to device. Try reconnecting or restarting your device." What do I do to fix this?
